Storyrobe

Well, I'll be interested in hearing how others are finding Storyrobe. The students took photos and made a fabulous story about the spelling rule called Catch Lunch Rule. I was so excited to share it with everyone but then... Here are my issues:

  •  It was difficult to get it to send to my email and I had to try many separate times to get it to go. Now when I go to view it the link won't work. I can't get it to go to youtube either. It"s like the page is frozen. Nothing happens. I will keep trying.
  • you have to keep the audio running to go to the next image when you're recording the story. It won't allow you to see or record the next iIrImage unless the audio is running.
  • I also didn't like that you couldn't make any corrections unless you restarted the whole story.
I used the story to show it to my mentor who was working with some of the students who were still struggling with the catch lunch rule and she loved it as a tutorial.
Okay, I'm going to go and try to see if I can do the youtube feature one more time.
No luck with my retry but I am going to sync it to my computer and see if that doesn't fix the app....or I might have to delete it and sync it then---I'm afraid my video will be gone though.

    Lois Storyrobe plan

My Storyrobe trial will be with one of our spelling rules--The Catch Lunch rule. I made a lesson with the mimio that the students have been practicing the rule with. I know that if they can explain how the rule works it will help them to become more solid in using it in their writing. They took the pictures as they practiced the rule with the mimio and I've put it on the storyboard so it's ready for the audio tomorrow. We'll see how it goes and I'll post it on the blog when it's done.

    Storyrobe Tutorial

Here's a tutorial on how to use Storyrobe.
The quick tips from my trials on using the Storyrobe app  are:

    •  it's a 3 min. video
    • if one of the students make a mistake you have to start all over from the beginning of the story. There isn't a redo.--hmmm could be a problem
    • once you create the story, you can't go back and edit

    Story Robe in Grade Three

Since getting the IPad last week I have been using various apps to reinforce concepts taught so far.  Each year I have my students make a story vine (basically a summary using visual cues) about a story they've read.  This year I am going to use the Story Robe app to display and record the students story vines.  After completion I hope to post them to the class wiki.  I will keep you posted on how it turns out.

We have now completed out Story Vine Project.  The students used the App Story Robe easily.  They were able to click through their pictures and record their retelling easily.  The pictures from the Ipad were good and the mic worked well in the classroom.  The problems occurred when I emailed  the Story Robe link and tried to post it to the class Wiki.  My husband had to convert the link to a file attachable to the Wiki.  After much work the students Story Vine presentations using Story Robe are on our Wiki.  I am not sure I would use this App again with the intent of the final product going on the Wiki.

    Welcome

The plan for this space is for us-- as a team-- to share all of the wonderful things we discover with the ipads and all of the bumps we run into as well. We will look at ways to solve problems we encounter. Give your feedback about how it's going in your classroom so we can see if you feel this is a tech choice.

You are welcome to blog on your own or we can blog together when we have our biweekly meetings. If you run into an issue between meetings and want to share it here we can problem solve through the blog as well. This would be a great place to ask questions and one of us may have the answer.
